Barbie for Big Girls

This year marks Barbie's 50th anniversary. Little Barbie's all grown up now, thanks to Stila. Stila carries these gorgeous tins with all the makeup that will make you look just like Barbie. Here are your choices with descriptions from the site:

1959 Barbie:
The original Barbie® doll wore the famous black and white striped bathing suit. Striking red lips and black-rimmed cat eyes made this doll the epitome of 1950s glamour!

1971 Malibu Barbie: Malibu Barbie® doll debuted in an aqua bathing suit, groovy sunglasses, and an L.A. tan! A sunny beach look featuring aqua shadow and pink lips made this doll the epitome of 1970s fresh, natural beauty!

1980 Foxy Barbie: Foxy Barbie® doll made the scene in a hot red outfit with golden accents and big earrings. A warm, sultry look featuring red lipstick and earth-toned shadow made this doll the epitome of bold 1980s glamour!

I don't know that the Foxy Doll embodies the 80s all that well. We think of this look as very 70s. Where's the big hair, the blue eyeshadow, the orangey-red lips? I'll give the good people at Mattel and Stila the benefit of the doubt; maybe this isn't just a way to stick in the token black Barbie (although why not make all the doll tins in different shades?). Besides, makeup styles from the 80s don't translate all that well to the present unless you want to look like a drag queen. Still, I think these tins, at $40 each, are adorable and a fun little collector's item. I never liked Barbies, but I may need to pick up this goodie.
