Photo Friday (on Monday): Stockings

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I absolutely love the LIFE magazine photo archive. I stumbled across this incredible slideshow a little while ago. The number and types of photos start to a bit fetishy, so I'm gonna say NSFW for the full slideshow, but it does really give you a sense of how styles have or haven't changed. My favorites from the collection, after the jump

The opening timeline of stockings through the ages is great, especially since stockings with these same patterns are going for about $45 in department stores right now.

A lot of the photos are publicity photos for actresses that focus on sex appeal but I like the casual feel of this shot.

The caption from the slideshow reads: A representative of Max Factor paints cream stockings onto a woman's leg as a solution to the unavailability of nylon during World War II; May 25, 1940.
This to me is so poignant; this one picture says so much about the war on the home front.

I was so excited to find this slideshow because I love the look and feel of stockings. Months of stress eating have made me heavier than I've ever been before and I'd be lying if I said I always felt confident and sexy or even just put together. But the perfect fishnets under a demure skirt or a pair of seamed stockings remind me that no matter what, I have a great set of pins. Click through the rest of the gallery here.
