Every once in a while a participate in the Digital Photography School's forum assignments. Your asked to post a photo in a certain category. A couple weeks ago, we were asked to photograph found objects and I snapped a picture of this beautiful fan I found on the sidewalk one day while walking in the rain. Didn't submit it in time, but I like the photos just the same. If I had to guess, I would say it's from the 1960s (If anyone is better at dating these things, please let me know)?
I love the turquoise color (see also: this blog's background). The thing is, this fan could maybe work if someone more qualified than I fiddled with it. I plugged it in and the blades spun once. Maybe there's hope yet. Either way it's beautiful, and I know there are plenty of people who collect antique and vintage fans. And of course, they have their very own website. I'm moving into a new place soon and I'll have to find a spot for my find.
Apartment Therapy has some great photos of spaces decorated with vintage fans. What beautiful but useless vintage appliances do you have decorating your home?
