Falling for Autumn Treats

A couple weeks ago, I jumped on a Daily Candy deal, something I generally don't take advantage of. Even discounted shopping is still shopping and I shouldn't really do that right now. But when they offered great deals on tea things from Classic Coffee and Tea, I figured it'd be a great opportunity to get an affordable thank-you present for my very special cousins. Then I checked the items--and the prices--and decided to get something for myself, too.

Creepy Dior Commercial Ft. Princess Grace, Marlene, and Marilyn

It goes without saying that Charlize Theron is stunning. You could cut your finger on those cheekbones. So, duh, Dior wants her as the face of Dior J'adore . But the use of CGI to add other legendary faces? Well. I'll let you be the judge.

Retrofit: Last of Indian Summer

It's actually cold now. As in, I might be wearing a wool dress this week. But a few weeks ago, we were having a real, live Indian summer. It was 80 degrees in October and even though I was getting over a nasty cold, I was determined to get the hell out of my house and not waste the sunshine.

This is a weird iPhone photo of a beautiful 1960s dress I wore to a wedding tonight. It ripped in the seam under the arm when I reached for something. I am not amused.

This Tickles Me

I used to wake up in the middle night and hear my dad watching ABC World News Now. That's probably why this particular bit of foolishness has a special place in my heart. Enjoy!

This Week on Pandora: I Ain't Gonna Sin No More

I love the dirtier side of early 20th century music, especially when it's tongue and cheek. Here's a video of Ethel Waters singing "I Ain't Gonna Sin No More".

This, of course, is the abridged and cleaned-up version. The real version, after the jump.

Photo Friday (on Sunday): Stockings, pt. 2

I've been feeling icky and sick since about Thursday which is why there hasn't been a whole lot happening around here. Friday, I really wanted to get this photo up:

This is the photo Cristina of Peek Brooklyn uses for her profile on Facebook. What I love about this photo is that it really reminds me of this one, which I posted a while back, when I first started Photo Friday

Not quite sure where the first photo is from, but I know I want every pair of tights and every pair of shoes pictured.

And of course, speaking of tights, the Peek Brooklyn giveaway ends tomorrow, Monday, at 11:59 p.m. EST. You have a chance to win a pair of Pretty Polly tights. You want these, promise. I have my eye on these lovelies:

Friendly's Files for Bankruptcy

Sad news, kids. Friendly's Ice Cream laid off almost 1,300 employees suddenly on Tuesday night, closed 63 stores and filed for bankruptcy. Thirty locations were closed in Massachusetts, my and Friendly's home state.

I used to live a five-minute drive from a Friend;y's. Of course, there aren't any here in the five boroughs, so I can't pop over for a quick milkshake and grilled cheese sandwich--I swear, Friendly's had the best grilled cheeses--so I'm going to mourn, ice cream-less

What are your favorite Friendly's memories?

Famous Photos Recreated in Legos

Last week, Flavorwire blogged about artist Mike Stimpson, who just created a series of Lego models of famous photographs. This, of course, was one of my favorites:

See the rest of Mike Stimpson's clever takes on iconic photos here.

And P.S.: You have until Friday at midnight to enter the super sexy stocking giveaway!

Peek Brooklyn Launch Party

My life has been pretty crazy as of late so I've been a bad blogger, indeed. So bad, in fact, that I didn't give the giveaway the push it deserved. So let's try this again. Call it a do-over, but first, photos.
