I mentioned last week that my boyfriend and I recently started taking swing classes. I didn't buy this skirt because we started swinging, but it's perfect, isn't it? My swing instructor certainly liked my outfit.
If you're on the East Coast, you're bracing yourself for big bad Hurricane Irene. That means lots of time indoors, lots of time to kill. The Boy and are listening to some CDs while we still have our electricity. We're enjoying Prince's 1999 right now but I came across some really great songs on Pandora this week I wanted to share. Enjoy the music before all our infrastructure goes to hell in a hand basket (or so they tell us).
Saturday was a busy day, indeed. I finally made it to the Bi-Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party and it was wonderful. After a dreary, rainy week there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The Dreamland Orchestra played beautifuly and people were dressed to the nines. In fact, some people were a bit too dressed up, wearing 20s and 30s-inspired evening looks to a party *clutches pearls in horror*
Nothing warm my heart like a demure but devilish pin-up. A twinkle in her eye, wind in her skirt: what could be better? So imagine how happy I was when I picked up these five pin-up cards at the Brooklyn Flea a few Saturdays ago:
I've had a busy week settling back into my New York life after a wonderful week-long vacation in L.A. Work and non-work have been nonstop, which is why it's taken me so long to get up my account of my dreamy trip to Retro Row in Long Beach.
Retro Row is a few blocks of shops carrying antique furniture, collectibles, and of course, vintage and repro clothes. The shops are lovely and the salespeople are so friendly. Prices are great (I found that in a lot of places it's true: vintage is cheaper on the West Coast than on the East Coast), and the salespeople were delightful.
I spent a couple hours at the Grammy Museum today and it was not nearly enough time. I didn't realize how big the whole thing was! Unfortunately, they didn't allow photography inside, but I had to snap an Instagram photo secretly of Billie Holiday's accessories, including her trademark gardenia.
