Retrofit: Professional Poindexter

I started a new job yesterday at an academic book publisher, and I'm really excited. It's not as boring as it sounds--I'm not going to be editing math textbooks. My first big-girl job, with benefits and business cards I didn't order from Vistaprint. It's been a helluva long time coming, a long, frustrating road, but I get to relax for a bit now. Thank. Goodness.

A big day required an outfit I'd never put together before. I had to dress the part of a competent, professional lady poindexter. Enter:  the sweater vest.

I look chubby. It's my boyfriend's fault. He held the iPhone.
Vest - Etsy
Shirt - Ralph Lauren (a steal at Marshall's)
Skirt - H&M
Excuse the photos, but I haven't addressed my camera issues, so I still have to rely on Instagram. This sweater vest, called the reporter vest, is a 1970s find I snapped up from Etsy last year. I don't have a ton of navy in my wardrobe but I loved the vest. Being a wee bit superstitious, I took it as a good sign that it was called the reporter vest, since I want to be a journalist when I grow up. I'm no longer writing for a website as a bread and butter job but I love that I still get to work with words and revel in my nerdiness while soaking up more trivia and stuff.

I also recently got these shoes for $40 from Urban Outfitters. I'm fairly sure you can't buy a pack of candy at UO for $40, so I was thrilled:
Love my shoes!

Finally, the perfect heeled oxford! This search took forever. I see these shoes becoming a big, big part of my wardrobe.
