I posted a version of these on Instagram, but I think this is better. I bought two pairs of these incredible 1950s stockings from Saks the same day I got my garter belt. I will eventually invest in some lingerie wash, but in the meantime, I used shampoo.

Where will you be on Sunday, fellow Maddicts? I, for one, have already bought my ticket for the Paley Center's Mad Men Premiere party, hosted by the lovely women behind Basket of Kisses.
I will absolutely be in full 60s gear (I'm even started hunting for the perfect shade of blue eyeshadow) and taking full advantage of the cocktails.
Season premiere is this Sunday. How are you watching it?

I finally got the Internet in my new apartment up and running, which means I can actually get stuff on to the blog with some regularity. I hate that it's the 18th and this is only my sixth photo a day post, but onwards!
For the first time in years, I'm using this jewelry box that belonged to my grandmother. She was married to an army man and this little box came all the way from Japan in the late 50s.
Though I always liked this jewelry box, it never made it to college with me because my parents were so worried someone would steal my jewelry, they insisted I put all my jewelry in a little lock box. Irony of ironies--one summer, when I was home, almost all of my jewelry was stolen in a break-in. So much for the lock box.
But I'm really glad to have this box in my grown-up life. It's a lot more elegant than a lock box and it reminds me of my family.

I had no idea what to do until I remembered Cabaret. The film has been on my mind lately because I was supposed to go to the Weimar cabaret-themed Scorpion's Kiss but something came up. In planning my outfit I thought of Liza Minnelli and her nails in the movie jumped out at me. She's all excited to show off her the emerald lacquer on her long pointy nails. How anachronistic, I thought. Wrong. I later read that bold young women of the 1930s eschewed red and pink polishes in favor of deep, serpentine greens. So consider this a) my subversion of the mint green nail polish trend I hate and b) a nod to Miss Sally Bowles.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love the Brooklyn Flea. People say the Flea is more expensive than other events of its kind, and that's true sometimes. but it's so perfect for browsing that I can't really be upset. I love to just wander through the Flea, especially during the winter when it's held in the Williamsburg Savings Bank. Finished during the Great Depression, the Williamsburg Savings Bank is the tallest building in Brooklyn and one of the most impressive. I feel so teeny tiny under these vaulted ceilings and I'd love to be able to stare at the ceiling mosaic but I'd get stepped on.

The weather's been pretty nasty here in New York and of course the one day I forgot my umbrella at home, it poured. I'd bought an umbrella for $25 a few months ago and there was no way I was going to pay for another. So I snapped up a super sexy grandma rain hood from Duane Reade. I'm thinking of adding some rockabilly flare to my rain gear with this great leopard rain bonnet from Bubble Betty.

There are new changes a foot. First: I'm going to post a different photo, taken by me unless something horrible happens to my phone and camera, every day. It'll be the 31 Day Photo Challenge (31 days in March). Second, and most exciting: I'm adding events! These are just events happening in New York, unfortunately, but who knows? Maybe that'll change. Burlesque, swing, jazz, amazing parties like Dances of Vice--you name it, it'll be on my calendar.

I'm a great big nerd, so I get excited about things like Sarah Reads Too Much Back to the Classics Challenge. And I was even more excited to get started when I came across the delightful illustrated Penguin Classic hardcover edition of Dracula. I'd never read Dracula and I'm kicking myself for taking so long to read it. It was incredible.
