Hello, Nurse!

Nurse Bettie, LESLast Friday was like a lot of my Fridays--I went to a burlesque show. It was my first time at Nurse Bettie, though, which I can't believe because it's a pin-up themed bar. It's also roughly the size of my living room.
It's a bar that has literally just a bar and some low seats in the front. That doesn't stop them from hosting burlesque once a week and making a special exception for Gal Friday and Dandy Wellington and His Band last week. And what Nurse Bettie lacks in space it more than makes up for in charm; the bartenders are really friendly and you can nibble on breadsticks and crackers with your drinks.

The band was great as usual--there's nothing like seeing burlesque with a live band. Gal got really up close and personal with the audience; the shyest girls blushed hilariously. After her performance she made me blush a bit too, telling me I was pretty and shouldn't be afraid to take one of her classes at the New York School of Burlesque. She put this ridiculous idea in my head that I might one day be a stage kitten. She also really liked my dress:

I love how much Gal Friday loves her job. The way she joked around with Dandy Wellington and the band was really sweet and personal, as though nobody else was there. Check out Nurse Bettie's website to find out about the weekly burlesque series Spanking the Lower East Side with Calamity Chang and other events. I'll definitely be going back, even for a night when there's no show.

  8. We have lots of bars in my college bars, but none of them burlesque; what a pity. Looks like a great place to be, look forward to your next review.
