A Trip to Jane's Carousel

As I'm sitting here waiting for Hurricane Sandy to drown us all, I was flipping through photos on my camera and realized I didn't post about my wonderful trip to Jane's Carousel this summer. It's a beautiful carousel the built in 1922 in Philadelphia, restored, and brought to the Brooklyn Waterfront. Husband and wife team Janes and David Walentas bought the carousel at an auction in 1984 and spent years lovingly restoring it, luckily for us.

Crazy Old Halloween Costumes

I'm a pretty festive person, so I'm surprised it's taken me this long to get anything Halloween-y on the blog. But a friend sent me a slideshow of some insane vintage costumes. Some a creative, definitely, but some are

Like this guy dressed as a side of bacon. I just don't get it.

Some Thoughts on Chelsea Crew Shoes

I've never reviews a brand here before but I want your thoughts. A while back, I bought a pair of Chelsea Crew shoes from the boutique across the street from my old apartment.
The Nico t-strap

I needed a pair of shoes for a 1950s Dances of Vice party; plus, I needed shoes I could wear to salsa clubs. After watching them for weeks, I went in and bought them. I was disappointed that a shoe for $55 (the discounted price) wasn't leather. Or at least the inside of the shoe is leather but not the outside? Confusing. Either way, they didn't look so cheap so I sucked it up and bought the shoes.

Old Time Radio: The Jack Benny Show

A few months ago I got tired of my usual radio station and started going through the dial. I stumbled across some swing and stayed on the station. When I came back from the kitchen 10 minutes later, I heard the voice of jimmy Stewart and sat on my bed to listen. The announcer on he show said Stewart was doing a version of his movie bend in river. It was really funny and I just had to stick around and find out what I was listening to. It was an episode of the Jack Benny Program on WBAI's Golden Age of Radio program (7-9pm for the New Yorkers that want to listen).

I haven't been able to tune in many Sundays but I went on a search and started listening to more episodes through a podcast. I can now say I'm obsessed with Jack Benny. His radio show, which ran for about 30 years was witty. I can see why people tuned in every week. After a while jack, Mary, Phil and the whole gang start to feel like family.

Just Dandy at the National Arts Club

Last Friday, I got the chance to hang out with some very fashionable people at Dandy Talk, a panel/showing/party starring the photography of Rose Callahan of The Dandy Portraits. If you haven't taken a look at her incredible photos, you should look right now. She photographs very well-dressed men, many with a vintage sensibility.
