Giveaway Sponsor Spotlight: Besame Cosmetics

Last week, Marie of Lemondrop Vintage kicked off the Season Bright giveaway series. My holiday glamour package is up for grabs and one of the lovely sponsors making it possible is Besame Cosmetics. Besame Cosmetics, created by Gabriel Hernandez in 2004, creates gorgeous makeup with rich pigments, modeled after the colors and packages popular in the 1940s. Besides being beautiful, Besame lipsticks are non-toxic, using ingredients like olive oil, green tea and rose waxes. This means long-lasting wear that doesn't dry out your lips.

The winner of the holiday glamour package won't mind getting caught under the mistletoe in this luxurious lipstick because nothing says "b├ęsame" like pinup-red lips.

Smartening Up about Style

Last Saturday, I started the day with brunch with my cousin at the Hotel Chantelle. It's the perfect Saturday brunch spot: affordable, not crowded, and inspired by 1940s France. Dandy Wellington performed and the crepes were incredible.  Dandy liked my outfit so much he Instagrammed it. I was dressed for my second stop, the Ivy Style exhibit at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Bet you didn't know I wore jeans - Seven
70s sweater vest - Etsy
Bow tie - Reminiscence
Scarf - pashmina bought from random street vendor

Old Time Radio: Thanksgiving Edition

You may know I've fallen in love with old radio shows. They celebrated holidays on the radio just like the holiday sitcom episodes for today. I'm leaving you with some hilarious holiday listening.

Turkey Dream, The Jack Benny Program: In which Jack falls asleep and dreams of turkey.

Happy Thanksgiving! (via My Vintage Vogue)

Bond Title Sequences, Ranked

I saw Skyfall last weekend and I'ms till in the throes of Bond fever. Which is why I'm extra excited about this article on Time ranking and analyzing all the title sequences for the films, a very important job indeed:

"Since the first Bond movie in 1962, every film (with a few notable exceptions) has started with the same trademark image: a view down the barrel of a gun. It’s a part of the James Bond legend as iconic as his vodka martini, but it’s also a cue for audiences to inch a little farther forward in their seats. Because what comes next is often the best part of the entire film: the James Bond opening scene. It’s like getting an extra Bond movie squeezed down into a tidy, 10-minute package: chases, fights, gadgets, kisses and quips, all segueing neatly into the (equally iconic) opening credits and theme song."

Everybody, Everywear: Ladies Need Wellies, Too

Image 5687

This month's challenge was boots. I know boots--ankle boots, granny boots, over the knee boots--are all the rage this season but the truth is, I haven't bought a pair of boots in about four years. Unless you count my wellies.

Wellies - Redfoot Shoes

I got these fantastic foldable--yes, foldable--rainboots from UK-based company Redfoot Shoes with a Groupon. Finally, a practical shoe that's actually cute. They fold up fairly small, have a nice lining and arent't too heavy. I've been wearing them to death in the wet weather we've been having and best of all, they're so cute, I don't mind wearing them with my vintage dresses sometimes.

Music Mondays: Please Don't Go by Johnny Acey

The other day I was thinking about how I used to post a lot on music when I started this blog. That's how I got drawn to vintage "culture"; listening to my parents' music, looking at album covers and wondering about the musicians themselves. And as I go to the monthly rockabilly night at Otto's, my music collection is skewing older and getting more diverse. So.Here's a great little tune I fell in love with when I listening to the RebelNight djs on the radio a couple weeks ago. I don't know much about Johnny Acey, but if you guys have favorite tracks, leave 'em in the comments.

Retrofit: Sweater Girl in Stockings

I don't have a laptop right now, hence the lack of posts in the last week. The Boy was kind of enough to let me steal his computer for this quick outfit post.

While I hate the cold, I lovelovelove the sweater girl look. And today's low temperatures meant I could wear my favorite 1960s wool skirt and a cashmere sweater (it felt even better slipping into this outfit when I woke up and there was no heat or hot water ugh).
