Music Monday on a Tuesday: Since I Fell For You

There's just something about Dinah. The first time I heard this song, I'd was in another room while my ex-boyfriend's father had it on the radio and her voice completely captured me. I pulled the song up using Shazaam and it was over; I was completely in love with miss Dinah Washington.

I didn't listen to her growing up too much. My dad played more Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn, all incredible singers, but as I listen to her, I know there was definitely room for Dinah. She was called Queen of the Jukeboxes, and it's easy to see why.

After some digging, I found out that she had a tough life, with weight issues, seven (!) marriages and a shopping addiction that left her flat broke. A mixture of sleeping and diet pills led to her accidental death at age 39.

But with this song, it's obvious that when Dinah was good, she was one of the best. This song is gorgeous and so sad. When I listen to her slow songs, I picture myself swaying slowly in the hip bachelor pad of a man that looks like young Harry Belafonte. Or Rock Hudson. Or...sorry. Anywho. Enjoy Dinah.
