Here's what's going on and where to go this week. It's a little quiet this week. But please let me know if I missed anything with an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or a tweet (@itsdlovely)!
Ragged but Right
The Back Room, 102 Essex Street, 8pm no cover
Mike Haar spins tunes from the 1910s through the 1950s, on cylinders and 45s.
The Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn, 7:30pm, $30
An amazing burlesque version of King Kong. It sounds insane; it is insane, go see it.
South Sea Soiree with Gin Minsky and Rosie Cheeks
Macao Trading Company, 311 Church, 9:30pm, dinner reservations required
Music by Dandy Wellington and some naked ladies! I've never been to this show, which happens every third Monday of the month, but it's definitely on my list.
Back Room Speakeasy with Svetlana and the Delancey 5
The Back Room, dance classes at 8, live music and DJ start at 9:30, no cover
Svetlana and her musicians bring great jazz to my favorite speakeasy. The night starts with Brooklyn Swings, a great group of teachers I used to take classes with. The night's DJ is DJ Swing Theory. Happens weekly.
Tuesday Night Social with Dandy Wellington
Hotel Chantelle, 92 Ludlow Street, 8:30pm, no cover
Dandy Wellington brings his band to one of my favorite restaurants. Lots of swing dancing.
Spanking the Lower East Side
Nurse Bettie, 106 Norfolk Street, 10pm, no cover
Calamity Chang produces a burlesque show in a tiny pinup themed bar. Things tend to get, um, interactive. Happens weekly.
The Wiggle Room Show
The Slipper Room, 167 Orchard Street, Doors, 8:30pm, Show 10pm, $10
I've never seen this show but the Slipper Room is a great venue and they always get really established burlesque performers for their shows. Happens weekly.
The Champagne Riot
The Cutting Room, 44 E 32nd Street, $15, 10pm
It's back, it's finally back! The Champagne Riot is a great evening of music, cabaret, and burlesque that had to hibernate for a bit. As usual, there's an incredible line up of performers, including the fabulous Perle Noire, Jezebel Express, and naked magic (actual magic tricks) from Albert Cadabra. Dandy Wellington is emcee an there's music from the Gelber and Manning Band.
Burlesque at Room 69
Hotel Chantelle, 9:30pm $5
More burlesque at Hotel Chantelle! This show is produced by Calamity Chang. Lots of beautiful, talented ladies but some pretty great boylesque, too! I hear it's incredible. Happens weekly.
The Plume Revue
Duane Park, 10pm $80 for dinner and show (but just sit at the bar)
Burlesque superstars like Gal Friday and Medianoche (two of my biggest girl crushes, just saying) appear weekly.
The Slipper Room Show
8:30pm Doors, 10pm Show, $15
Burlesque, yes, but also sideshow and variety. Happens weekly.
Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show
Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W 18th Street, 1-8pm Friday, $15 online, $20 at the door
This comes around every couple of months. I have yet to check it out but I want to because it's full of great vendors. Get tickets
Wit's End: Hot Jazz in January
Flute, 205 W 54th Street, 8pm, $12
A fun 1920s event at an actual speakeasy, even though it ends at midnight. Kita St. Cyr is a great hostess, the cocktails are delicious and the music is by the Red Hook Ramblers, a great hot jazz group.
