Summer School for Film Noir Nerds

When Turner Classic Movies announced they'd be holding an online course about film noir, I dropped everything I was doing to sign up. The network teamed up with Ball State University and Canvas.net, the online course platform, to bring fans "Into the Darkness: Investigating Film Noir". And it dovetails with "The Summer of Darkness" film noir series happening on TCM over the next few months.

The course just finished its first week, so there's still time for you to get in on it (there's no cap on enrollment, and from what I understand, about ten thousand people have already signed up). It's low-impact, so no need to worry about the time commitment: Monday through Thursday, Professor Richard L. Edwards send everyone a five-minute clip and a couple discussion questions. You then either take to the TCM message boards, the Canvas boards or, my personal favorite, Twitter. One movie is assigned each week, and you can watch them online if like me, you don't have cable. Lectures will start soon but the first week was about everyone acclimating to the flow of things.

Are you already in the class? Let me know what you think in the comments or on Twitter at @itsdlovely! Sign up here if you haven't started.
